Abstract:

As Estonia's role within the EU continues to grow, also language skills have become increasingly critical for professionals working in the internal security organizations. Agencies such as the Police and Border Guard Board, Tax and Customs Board, Prison Service, and the Rescue Board face a growing need for employees with language proficiency to effectively address the complex challenges of modern security. This paper investigates the specific language skill requirements of these organizations, examining the evolving expectations of employers in the field of internal security. By identifying the gaps between current language training programs and the needs of the contemporary Estonian workplace, the study aims to provide valuable insights for developing more tailored curricula that equip students of the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences with the language skills necessary to excel in their future careers within internal security agencies.
