Odette Vassallo is an Associate Professor in Applied Linguistics at the University of Malta. She teaches in the Department of English and is Director of the Centre for Academic Literacies and English Communication Skills. Her research focuses on academic literacies within multilingual and cross-cultural contexts, corpus linguistics, second language acquisition, stylistics, language assessment, English-medium instruction (EMI), teacher discourse, and creativity. She leads the Communication and Academic Skills Programme (CASP) at the University of Malta and has a particular interest in the intersection of metacognitive strategies, genre-based pedagogy, and writing in the disciplines, and in how these approaches support student learning and agency. Recent projects have examined the role of feedback in developing reflective writing practices, the challenges posed by EMI in higher education, and the implications of artificial intelligence for literacy and assessment. Through CASP, she develops and leads initiatives that integrate academic communication into curricula and support writing development across different disciplines.
